Like all statistical filters, need to go through a training phase before reaching full effectiveness.

Our Review:

SpamBayes is one of the excellent free Bayesian spam filters available and it supports POP3 and IMAP protocols.

SpamBayes is simple to install. It classifies incoming email messages as 'spam', 'ham' (good or non-spam email) or 'unsure'. In this way, you can have spam or unsure messages automatically filed away in a different mail folder, and focus on a pile of email that you like or ham.

Like all statistical filters, SpamBayes must be trained by you to identify spam and ham. You show SpamBayes a pile of email that you like (ham) and a pile you don't like (spam), then the system uses these clues to analyze and filter new messages. It needs to go through a training phase before it reaches full effectiveness.
