Pros & Cons:

Full featured package, considering the price (free!). Very customizable.
Steep learning curve, interface a little bit bleak.

Our Review:

GnuCash is another package to have a look at for business management software.

Whilst the interface is a little bleak, it has a huge range of features, and is very complete in what it can do (considering it is open source). It has the ability to track stocks and mutual fund portfolios, as well as small business management tools such as customer and vendor management, invoicing and budgeting too.

GnuCash does not provide encryption of data files but you may use an external encryption software such as AxCrypt to keep the files secure.

One thing to note it has a little bit of a steep learning curve to begin with; however, if you persist you will find it is well worth the effort.

The application runs across platforms including Windows, Mac OS and Linux. A portable version is available here.

The Android version is a companion application for desktop GnuCash and allows you to track expenses on-the-go which can be exported to QIF or GnuCash XML formats.
