Free Online Index Card App Helps You Organise Your Info

Online index card app imageIf you're a long-time reader of this column then you'll know that I'm a huge fan of information management software. Something that helps you create lists of things and then manage those lists by arranging items in order. To-do lists, with separate columns for stuff that's been done and stuff that hasn't, is just the start of it. I've also used such a system to plot out the bare bones of a novel that I've been working on for some time.

I came to the conclusion a couple of years ago that the format which works best for me is something which resembles sticky yellow notes on a big board. So it might seem obvious that, if this is indeed the case, I should indeed buy a pack of notes and a piece of board. But such an arrangement isn't exactly portable, and can't easily be backed up. So a computerised simulation of that arrangement is what works for me.

Super Note Card ( is an online card-and-board system which allows you to enter notes on a representation of an index card. You can then arrange and structure those notes as you wish. Although the full system costs $25 a year, you can use a subset of the features for free. You just need to sign up with an email address (any will do) and a password.

I have to admit that I'm in two minds about Super Note Card. It looks good, but it's not the most intuitive system I've used. Still, it's free to get started with, and being online it means there's nothing to download or install. So give it a try and see what you think.

And if you like personal information management software as much as I do, keep an eye on these pages in the next few days. I've managed to arrange a special deal on some free licences for a really nice product.

I think all of us have experienced the frustration that comes with having a mountain of information that is poorly organized. Any software that can manage information in a streamlined and efficient manner is always welcomed. Be sure to let us know when that novel gets published.
